So I'm finally up here at Yale. Thanks to Noelle and her mom for driving us up here yesterday.
Yale's been awesome so far. Except I'm staying in L-Dub, which is the shittiest housing on campus. It literally feels like the projects, with small rooms and cramped spaces and icky bathrooms (i hate bathrooms, ugh). The program i'm doing, Cultural Connections, brings a lot of speakers and stuff and helps us acclimate to Yale and does minority-specific things like tell us about the Cultural Houses and the support programs that they have. I have a Master and Dean of my residential college, freshman residential counselors, ethnic counselors (?! wtf but they're really cool), a Big Sib, faculty advisors and probably more people i'm forgetting.
The people here have been really down to earth and cool even though they did AMAZING things in high school. It humbles me because I don't think I did much in high school like some of the people here. It goes to show, don't underestimate us because we're minorities.
Today I went bowling and then shopping at Walmart as part of the program. I'm such an erratic bowler. I did not hit a single pin for the first three frames in the first game. At all. My score was literally at zero after 3 rounds. It was embarassing. I remember feeling good that I hadnt talked any trash to anyone. But then my second game I bowled a...148? My 2nd highest score after the 149 that many of you witnessed. Where it came from, I don't really know. Walmart was big and confusing, but I got a floor lamp and a rug and a set of speakers and a razor and shaving cream.
Anyhow, I really just cant wait to move into my permanent room in Vanderbilt, which is soooo much nicer. *sigh*...so excited. College is fun :)
